he XA Lab seminar was successfully held on JUL 28.

During the seminar, Ph.D. studentSiwoo Park and Master’s studentHyun Min Choi presented the research topics they will pursue this semester.

Name : Siwoo Park

Title : A resting space that begins at an abandoned bus stop.

Summary : While subway stations continuously expand and roads remain as fundamental urban infrastructure during the process of urban development, bus stops sometimes lose their original function due to changes in transportation systems and route restructuring. These defunct bus stops persist within the urban fabric without being demolished, giving rise to new modes of use; they serve as traces of urban evolution and represent underutilized infrastructure open to reinterpretation. Given these characteristics, this study focuses on bus stops to propose new possibilities for utilizing infrastructure left behind during urban development.

Name : Hyun Min Choi

Title : “A Study on the Boundary Conditions and Urban Connectivity of Rooftop Spaces in High-Density Cities.”

Summary : A total of 449 rooftops were classified into five types based on the presence of obstacles and structural characteristics. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed that obstacle-free rooftops were clearly distinguished from the other types, while the remaining types formed distinct clusters based on the layout and distribution of structural elements. This analysis enabled an objective understanding of the characteristics and interrelationships among the rooftop types.

It was a meaningful occasion for students to share their plans, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback. Their upcoming research is highly anticipated, and we look forward to seeing its development throughout the semester.

The seminar took place in the PT Room on the 4th floor of Building 22, and the next paper seminar is scheduled to be held on AUG 04.
