Seminars 35

The XA Lab seminar was successfully held on JUN 17.

During the seminar, Master’s studentMiri Hwang and Master’s studentHyun Ji Lee presented the research topics they will pursue this semester.

Name : Miri Hwang

Title : A study on how to improve the design of 'Abandoned railway land' as an in-between space - Analysis of spatial elements and user behaviour using the YOLO algorithm and EEG analysis -

Summary : In the EEG experiment, the interest measured through brainwaves (EEG) did not show significant differences between conditions and remained generally consistent. Stress also did not show major changes, although there was a slight trend of it being higher in conditions other than the Daeheung-dong HOT condition. While the Daeheung-dong HOT area showed a generally weak response, the specific location marked in the red box on the right was found to have induced a strong cognitive and emotional response in users. Most importantly, this analysis revealed that the physiological response represented by EEG data and the subjective evaluation through surveys do not necessarily match.

Name : Hyun Ji Lee

Title : Gap Between Design Intentions and Actual User Behavior in Public Spaces Developed Through International Design Competitions – An AI-Based Analysis of User Activities –

Summary : I conducted the filming to analyze how people's natural movement paths change depending on the presence of shade during hot weather. To achieve this, I decided to use the YOLO program and installed cameras at various angles to find the optimal vantage point to accurately track movement paths. The main purpose of this filming is to go beyond simply observing movement and to precisely analyze where pedestrians move and stay when it is hot, comparing areas with shade against those without.

It was a meaningful occasion for students to share their plans, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback. Their upcoming research is highly anticipated, and we look forward to seeing its development throughout the semester.

The seminar took place in the PT Room on the 5th floor of Building 22, and the next paper seminar is scheduled to be held on JUN 24.
