Seminars 31

The XA Lab seminar was successfully held on MAY 06.

During the seminar, Ph.D. student Siwoo Park and Ph.D. student Zhang Kexin presented the research topics they will pursue this semester.

Name : Siwoo Park

Title : The Rebirth of Abandoned Spaces

Summary : With the development of new bus stops in the target area, I aim to design a space and formulate programs that cater to diverse user groups, including new residents, market visitors, and local merchants.

Through my field research, I identified that the topographical features of the area—specifically the steep slopes—pose a significant barrier to the mobility of the elderly. By analyzing the behavioral patterns of seniors relying on makeshift or abandoned chairs for rest, I concluded that establishing a dedicated and comfortable shelter is a primary necessity.

Title : From Iconic Structure to Vibrant Public Space : A Case Study on Seoullo 7017 Bridge Sustainability Transformation

Summary : This analysis aims to solve the lack of vitality in the public spaces located in the middle sections of a bridge by examining how long people stay in those areas. Using a technical method called Homography, the researchers converted visual data into a plan view to accurately map pedestrian locations and their stay duration. The process involved four stages of development, focusing on correcting the direction of the planar projection and ensuring that the mapped points matched the actual bridge deck. By visualizing this data through heatmaps, the study provides a clear understanding of space usage, offering essential insights for revitalizing inactive public areas.

It was a meaningful occasion for students to share their plans, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback. Their upcoming research is highly anticipated, and we look forward to seeing its development throughout the semester.

The seminar took place in the PT Room on the 4th floor of Building 22, and the next paper seminar is scheduled to be held on MAY 15.
