Designing Our Neighborhood: Suwon Community Planning

The “Designing Our Neighborhood” project is a collaborative community planning workshop conducted in Suwon in 2025.

Led by XA in the Department of Architecture at Sungkyunkwan University in partnership with Suwon City and the Suwon Research Institute,

the project engaged local residents, architecture students, and experts to identify urban issues and propose spatial design solutions.

Three neighborhoods—Jeongja 2-dong, Jeongja 3-dong, and Yulcheon-dong—were selected for site-specific interventions.

Through workshops, field surveys, and participatory mapping, residents and students developed both short-term and long-term project ideas,

ranging from street and park improvements to the reuse of idle public spaces.

This project provided a meaningful opportunity to connect architectural education with real-world social engagement,

fostering resident-led design and student-driven community impact.

Final proposals were presented as design panels and exhibited at the local autonomy fair.
