Lecture Series

The Department of Architecture at Sungkyunkwan University, in collaboration with XA Lab, is pleased to announce the first lecture of the 2026 Architecture Department Invited Lecture Series.

We are honored to welcome Hwang Nam-in and Kim Si-hong of Narrative Architects as the inaugural speakers of the series.

‍ ‍

In the architectural design process, using AI effectively requires more than simply asking questions and accepting the results. It is important to clearly communicate our spatial ideas and design intentions in natural language so that AI can understand them accurately. When the results do not match our expectations, rather than seeing this only as a limitation of AI, we need to reconsider whether the intended spatial form, atmosphere, and design direction have been communicated clearly and make an effort to express them more specifically. Through this iterative process, AI can better reflect the designer’s intentions, while designers can refine and develop their ideas by reviewing and adjusting the results generated by AI.

Ultimately, the lecture emphasized that using AI in architecture is not about replacing the designer, but about complementing each other’s limitations and developing design ideas together, while helping architects articulate their own thoughts and design intentions more clearly.
