General Assembly & Spring Annual Conference of AIK, 2026
On April 30, the 2026 Spring Conference of the Architectural Institute of Korea was held, where research outcomes in the field of architectural planning were presented.
We are proud to share that XA Lab researcher Sechang Oh delivered an oral presentation titled “Physical Activity and Cognitive Responses in Active Design-Based Vertical Circulation: An fNIRS Pilot Study and EEG-Based Extension.”
This study explored the relationship between spatial configuration, movement behavior, and cognitive responses in university library environments. By integrating Active Design strategies, Space Syntax analysis, YOLO-based movement tracking, and fNIRS-based pilot experiments, the research examined how vertical circulation can encourage physical activity and potentially influence cognitive responses.
In recognition of the quality and contribution of the presentation, our master's student Sechang Oh received the Excellent Presentation Paper Award at the conference. This achievement highlights the potential of interdisciplinary research that connects architectural planning, movement-based spatial design, and neurophysiological analysis.
In recognition of an outstanding and insightful presentation, our master's student Sechang Oh received the Excellent Presentation Paper Award at the 2026 Spring Conference of the Architectural Institute of Korea, highlighting the innovative future of architectural research.
